DATE: October 14, 2024, 7:32 p.m.
INCIDENT: Lethal Force Encounter
LOCATION: Interstate 15 North / State Route 138, Unincorporated area of Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Robert Brown, 39-year-old Resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY: On Monday, October 14, 2024, at approximately 7:32 p.m., deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a disturbance call at a home in the 6100 block of Outpost Road, in the unincorporated area of Hesperia. Deputies learned Robert Brown assaulted his spouse and stole her cell phone before leaving the residence in his blue Infinity sedan.
At approximately 9:41 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Police Department spotted Brown’s vehicle near Main Street and Topaz Avenue, in Hesperia. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on Brown’s vehicle and Brown failed to yield. Brown led deputies on an extensive pursuit through public streets and onto Interstate 15. The pursuit continued south on the Interstate into the Rancho Cucamonga / Fontana area before Brown changed direction and drove back toward Hesperia. During the pursuit, Brown fled from deputies in a reckless manner, driving at high speeds, failing to stop at stop signs, and putting the public in danger.
During the pursuit, pursuit intervention techniques (PIT) were attempted but were ultimately unsuccessful. With assistance from California Highway Patrol, spike strips were deployed, puncturing the vehicle’s tires. The pursuit terminated on northbound Interstate 15, near State Route 138. At the termination of the pursuit a lethal force encounter occurred, and Brown was struck by gunfire. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Robert Brown was booked for the following charges: PC 273.5 – Inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse, PC 211 – Robbery, and VC 2800.2 – Felony Evading with Disregard for Safety.
