Proactive Policing Leads to Felony Drug Arrest
Man was arrested for possessing drugs and resisting arrest.
San Mateo, CA – On October 16, 2024, at 8:40 p.m., a San Mateo Police Officer was driving his patrol vehicle near the intersection of South Claremont Street and Keswick Lane. A male was riding a bicycle without proper lighting and almost ran into the officer’s patrol vehicle. The officer stopped the suspect on the bike to investigate the incident.
The suspect, Jason Hellman, identified himself with a California Driver License, that officers later learned belonged to another person. The person Hellman falsely identified himself as, had a warrant for his arrest. As officers attempted to detain Hellman in handcuffs, he ran from police officers. Hellman was quickly stopped and safely arrested without further incident.
After Hellman was arrested, officers found over four ounces of methamphetamine, money, and drug paraphernalia in his backpack. After being arrested and placed in a patrol vehicle, Hellman finally provided officers with his correct name and identification. Officers learned Hellman had two felony warrants for his arrest.
Hellman was transported and booked into San Mateo County Jail for possession of drugs of sale, resisting arrest, providing a false name to a police officer and the two felony warrants.
