INCIDENT TYPE: 3 vehicle crash E IH40 east bound proper and Whitaker

DETAILS: On 10/17/2024, Officers were dispatched to E. IH40 eastbound proper at Whitaker on a major crash involving 3 vehicles. All vehicles were East bound on IH 40 when one of the vehicles, a Chevrolet Silverado lost control causing the Silverado to strike a green Chevrolet Suburban. The Suburban rolled several times causing the driver, male, age 32, to be ejected from the vehicle. He suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The occupants in the other 2 vehicles were not injured. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
*update 11:06am*** Eastbound I40 has been cleared and opened back up for normal traffic.

The Amarillo Police traffic investigation unit is working a major crash on i40 at Whitaker. The interstate is closed on Eastbound i40 between Eastern and Lakeside. Please avoid the area and we will advise when traffic is cleared.
