Case# ROH 24-4217

ROHNERT PARK – On October 19, 2024, at approximately 12:16 p.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Dispatch Center received multiple reports of a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Kirsten Court in Rohnert Park. Residents who called 9-1-1 reported heavy fire activity in an upstairs unit.

Upon arrival, fire department personnel observed significant flames coming from the second-floor apartment. The fire had fully engulfed one unit and was rapidly spreading to neighboring apartments. Due to the fire’s size, the incident commander immediately called for a second alarm and additional resources. While firefighters worked to contain the fire in the affected and adjacent units, the fire began spreading through the attic. The apartment building’s lack of firewalls in the attic, due to its age, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Firefighters aggressively attacked the blaze, successfully bringing it under control in about an hour.

The fire is believed to have originated in the living area of one apartment, though the exact cause remains under investigation. The building was declared uninhabitable, and the Red Cross was called to assist approximately 30 displaced residents. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

The fire is estimated to have caused approximately $2 million in damage. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety would like to thank the staff from Rancho Adobe Fire, Sonoma County Fire, Sebastopol Fire, Gold Ridge Fire, Santa Rosa Fire, and Cal Fire for their help in bringing this incident under control.
