Advisory

Early Leaf Collection Begins October 21

Due to this year's dry summer weather, leaves fell earlier than usual, which has resulted in significant volume in some areas of Town prior to the standard early November timeframe to begin leaf collection. As a result, the Department of Public Works will begin leaf collection two weeks earlier this year.

During the week of October 21, collection will start in concentrated areas with the heaviest leaf volume, as follows:

  • Drummond Road (Zone 2)
  • Woodbrook Circle (Zone 2)
  • Highland Avenue (Zone 4)
  • Cedar Terrace (Zone 4)
  • Standish Avenue (Zone 4)
  • Bradford Avenue (Zone 4)
  • Birch Avenue (Zone 4)
  • Colonial Avenue (Zone 4)
  • Alden Avenue (Zone 4)
  • Munsee Way (Zone 4)
  • Lenape Trail (Zone 4)
  • Watchung Fork (Zone 4)
  • Norman Place (Zone 7)
  • Norgate (Zone 7)
  • Knollwood Terrace (Zone 7)
  • Dartmoor (Zone 7)
  • Nancy Way (Zone 7)
  • Tuxford Turn (Zone 7)
  • Talcott Road (Zone 7)
  • Bates Way (Zone 7)
  • Stoneleigh (Zone 8)
  • Midwood Place (Zone 8)
  • Carleton Road (Zone 8/9)
  • Boulevard (Zone 9)
  • Summit Avenue (Zone 8)
  • Clifton Street (Zone 9)
  • Landsdowne Avenue (Zone 9)
  • Azalea Trail (Zone 9)
  • Twin Oaks Terrace (Zone 9)
  • Evergreen Court (Zone 9)
  • Welch Way (Zone 9)
  • Avon Road (Zone 9)
  • Grandview Avenue (Zone 9/10)
  • Eton Place (Zone 9)
  • Boynton Avenue (Zone 9/10)
  • Massachusetts Street (Zone 10)
  • Connecticut Street (Zone 10)
  • Delaware Street (Zone 10)
  • Maryland Street (Zone 10)
  • Virginia Street (Zone 10)
  • Boynton Court (Zone 10)
Collection guidelines:
  • Place leaves in narrow rows alongside the curb but leaving a space along the gutter to allow for drainage.
  • Do not place leaves any closer than ten feet from any stormwater inlet.
  • Do not place twigs, tree branches, pumpkins, grass, or other plant debris, including discarded mums, in the leaf pile. Note that the Town will not pick up leaves with mixed debris, as only leaves are accepted at the Union County compost facilities where the leaves are deposited.
  • Whenever possible, do not park on the street when the collection crews are in your zone.

Regular collection will begin on October 28, with new sequencing. This year, crews will begin in Zone 2 on the north side and in Zone 7 on the south side. Daily Nixle alerts will begin next week to notify residents of completed areas and anticipated collection points for the following day.
