Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Juvenile Arrested for Carjacking Pizza Delivery Driver 10-21-2024
On Sunday, October 20, 2024 at approximately 7:46 pm, The Gloucester Township Police Department received a report of a pizza delivery driver who was robbed, assaulted and had his vehicle stolen in the Millbridge Apartments complex in Gloucester Township.
Initial investigation revealed the suspect ordered pizza from the 900 block of Millbridge Apartments. When the pizza delivery driver approached the front porch, the suspect pretended to search his pockets for money to pay, then punched the victim in the head and jumped into his vehicle. The victim gave chase, but the suspect fled in his vehicle, ultimately crashing into two vehicles in the apartment complex. Gloucester Township Police arrived quickly and observed a suspect matching the provided description running through the woods in the area. A foot pursuit ensued where officers observed the suspect was removing and throwing clothing. A Pine Hill Police K-9 unit responded to assist with tracking. The suspect was ultimately apprehended in the area of Emerson Court by Planet Fitness without further incident. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. There were no injuries to the suspect or to Police.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with any additional information is requested to contact police. The juvenile suspect was charged with Robbery, Carjacking, Motor Vehicle Theft, Assault and Resisting Arrest. He was processed and remanded to the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center.
Thanks to the quick actions of the Gloucester Township Police Officers, the suspect was apprehended quickly and without injury. Food delivery businesses are urged to verify all orders when possible including to include the use of caller ID and calls to the customer to verify. Delivery drivers are urged to use caution when making deliveries to include turning off their vehicles, locking them when exiting and be aware of their surroundings.
