The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2024:
10:49 AM Officers responded to a domestic disturbance near Cherry Street & Thornton Avenue. Upon investigation, a 24-year-old female was arrested for robbery and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
11:35 AM Officers responded to a traffic collision reported at Newark Boulevard & Central Avenue. A 51-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:00 PM Officer Williams investigated an attempted vehicle theft near Newpark Mall Road. The front window was discovered smashed in and the hood of the vehicle opened.
7:32 PM Officer Williams investigated a theft of residential keys from a residence near Smith Avenue & Cherry Street.
11:36 PM Officer Soto investigated a vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. The loss is currently unknown.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2024:
7:05 AM Officer Schaffer investigated a vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. The vehicle’s rear container space was forced into, resulting in the loss of home improvement and power tools.
9:07 AM Officer Leath investigated a vehicle burglary on Mowry School Road. The vehicle’s rear window was shattered, with no reported loss.
9:11 AM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue. The lock for the rear vehicle door was forced open and power tools were reported taken.
10:18 AM Officer Lor stopped a bicyclist making unsafe turns near Cedar Boulevard & Moors Avenue. Upon investigation, a 35-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and released on scene with a citation.
5:00 PM Officer Leath investigated a vehicle theft near Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street.
5:15 PM Officer Shaffer investigated a vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. The side window was broken into with the loss of a bag containing a wallet, iPad, and other work electronics.
8:21 PM Officer Swadener investigated a vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue. The passenger window was shattered with no loss reported.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2024:
8:28 AM Officer Orozco was on active patrol near Joaquin Murieta Avenue & Cherry Street. A 35-year-old male was contacted inside a vehicle and subsequently arrested for narcotics and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
1:23 PM Officer S. Torres investigated a theft of a cellphone on Newpark Mall Road.
3:00 PM Officer Shaffer investigated a license plate theft reported near Thornton Avenue & Newark Boulevard.
8:22 PM Officer Schaffer responded to a commercial burglary reported near Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road. A 36-year-old female was charged with burglary, possession of narcotics and burglary tools. She was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
10:04 PM Officer Diaz-Perez investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Jarvis Avenue & Dumbarton Court. A side window was shattered resulting in the loss of power tools.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2024:
4:12 AM Officer Berlanga responded to multiple vehicle burglaries reported near Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road. The loss is currently unknown.
10:16 AM Officer Medina investigated a mail theft reported near Jarvis Avenue & Haley Street.
1:39 PM CSO Lau responded to a vehicle burglary at Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue. The rear container hatch was forced open resulting in the loss of work tools.
2:29 PM CSO Lau recovered a stolen vehicle near Jarvis Avenue & Haley Street.
3:12 PM CSO Mora responded to a report of vandalism near Central Avenue & Sycamore Street. A door was discovered forcibly pried open, causing damage.
8:12 PM Officer Shaffer conducted a pedestrian stop near Newark Boulevard and Musick Avenue. A 65-year-old male was arrested for violation of probation terms and an outstanding warrant. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2024:
5:30 AM Officer Berlanga responded to a residential burglary reported near Sycamore Street & Graham Avenue. Reported loss included suitcases, electronics, and furnishings.
9:13 AM Officer S. Torres investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries throughout the city. Reported loss included tools.
1:48 PM Officer Jackman investigated a theft of a trailer near Spruce Street & Thornton Avenue.
2:42 PM Officer S. Torres conducted a welfare check near Mowry Avenue & Alpenrose Court. A 31-year-old male was arrested for public intoxication and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
4:24 PM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle theft reported near Gateway Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. The vehicle was later recovered by a neighboring agency.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2024:
1:53 AM Officer Williams performed a traffic stop on Civic Terrace Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. A 23-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
11:12 AM Officer Orozco recovered a stolen vehicle near Walnut Street & Thornton Avenue.
4:17 PM Officer Lomeli responded to a strongarm robbery reported near Cedar & Newark Boulevards. Reported loss included a bag, jewelry, and personal items.
22:57 PM Officer Williams initiated a traffic stop on an erratic driver near Cherry Street & Central Avenue. A 60-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and driving under the influence. He was released with a citation.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2024:
11:08 AM Officer Jackman investigated a commercial burglary near Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard. Point of entry was determined through a wall.
