On Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Dia de Los Muertos event is being held from the hours of 12 PM – 5 PM in Newark.

This event is a vibrant cultural celebration honoring deceased loved ones featuring altars (ofrendas) as well as traditional music, dance and food for all ages highlighting the continuity of life and death.  

This event will occur on Thornton Avenue, between the intersections of Magnolia Street and Sycamore Street, requiring a road closure in both directions from 6 AM – 6 PM.  

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area or safely follow the detour signs to traverse around the closed roadway.

Commercial trucks traveling in either direction on Thornton Avenue are advised to use either Cherry Street or Sycamore Street to connect with Central Avenue, as an alternate bypass route.
