Construction Update: Sinatra Drive closure extended; JCMUA closures to shift
Sinatra Drive closure extended
Work to set up a temporary traffic pattern on Sinatra Drive has been extended through tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 25, and possibly Monday, Oct. 28, which will require Sinatra Drive be closed to vehicular traffic in both directions between Fourth and 11th Streets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Detours will be on Hudson Street and Washington Street. Signs will be posted, and Hoboken Police Officers will be on site to assist with traffic control and pedestrian safety.
The temporary traffic pattern will convert the west side of Sinatra Drive into two lanes of traffic. Once in place, this will allow the City’s marine engineers to conduct geotechnical borings along the eastern portion of Sinatra Drive that will inform the engineering design for the permanent rehabilitation of certain waterfront structures, following the June sinkhole discovered near Sybil’s Cave.

JCMUA work to close part of Newark Street
The ongoing Jersey City Municipal Utility Authority (JCMUA) interconnection project, to upgrade infrastructure that provides clean drinking water to residents of Hoboken and Jersey City, will require the partial closure of Observer Highway/Newark Street tomorrow, Oct. 25 and Monday, Oct. 28, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Observer Highway/Newark Street will be closed to westbound traffic between Grove Street and Henderson Street. Traffic will detour onto Henderson Street. Eastbound lanes on Observer Highway/Newark Street will remain open for traffic.
In addition, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, through Thursday, Oct. 31, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the intersection of Observer Highway and Henderson Street will be closed. Westbound traffic will detour onto Henderson Street. Eastbound traffic will detour onto Grove Street and Madison Street.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the intersection of Newark Street and Jefferson Street will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto Madison and Adams Streets.
Hoboken and Jersey City Police Officers will be on site to assist with detours, traffic control, and pedestrian safety. Detour and variable messaging signs will also be in place ahead of the closures. Drivers are advised to leave extra time entering or exiting Hoboken via southern routes during the JCMUA work hours.
