Halloween Safety Tips
The Rosemead Public Safety Department would like to share some safety tips to keep children safe on Halloween.
For Kids & Parents:
- Costume Safety:
- Make sure costumes fit well to avoid tripping hazards.
- Use flame-resistant materials and avoid long capes or accessories that could drag.
- Add reflective tape or stickers to costumes for better visibility at night.
- Opt for face paint or makeup instead of masks that can obstruct vision.
- Trick-or-Treating:
- Always accompanying young children. Older kids should trick-or-treat in groups and follow a pre-planned route.
- Carry a flashlight or glow stick for better visibility.
- Stay on sidewalks, cross streets at designated crosswalks, and follow traffic signals.
- Only visit well-lit houses and avoid accepting treats from strangers in cars.
- Never enter a stranger’s home.
- Candy Safety:
- Inspect candy for tampering, such as opened wrappers or unusual packaging. Discard anything that looks suspicious.
- Avoid homemade treats from strangers.
- Limit candy consumption to prevent stomachaches or cavities.
- Lighting:
- Keep your porch and walkways well-lit to prevent falls and make trick-or-treaters feel safe.
- Clear obstacles, like hoses or decorations, from your yard and driveway.
- Pet Safety:
- Keep pets indoors to prevent them from getting scared or harming trick-or-treaters.
- Make sure pets are secured in a room away from the door to avoid accidental escapes.
- Drive Carefully:
- Be extra alert for children walking on roads and crossing streets.
- Drive slowly in residential areas, especially where trick-or-treaters are likely to be present.
- Keep your headlights on to increase visibility.
