SUBJECT: Street Robbery by Scam Artist
INCIDENT LOCATION: 200 Block Madrone Street, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: October 24, 2024, Approximately 9:12 A.M.
On 10/24/24 at approximately 9:12 A.M. Redwood City Police Officers responded to the 200 block of Madrone Street in Redwood City on the report of a woman who had a gold necklace stolen from around her neck. Officers learned that at approximately 9:00 A.M. the victim was watering plants in front of her residence. A vehicle pulled up and asked the victim for directions. As the victim was speaking with the suspect, the suspect pulled the victim close to the suspect and placed a medallion around the victim’s neck. The suspect claimed she wanted to bless the victim and as the suspect removed the medallion, the suspect removed two chains belonging to the victim. The victim was able to retain one of her chains but the suspects were able to take the other chain and fled the scene.
The female suspect was described as a middle eastern woman who appeared to be approximately 50-60 years old and wore a head covering. The driver of the suspect vehicle was described as a middle eastern male who appeared to be 45-50 years old and approximately 250 lbs. The vehicle was described as a dark SUV.
A simple internet search will reveal that these types of incidents are not uncommon. Specifically, there appears to be an uptick in these incidents in the Bay Area in the last few months. We urge all community members to be cautious when approached be strangers and to report any suspicious activity to the police department.
