Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help locating Richard Garcia-Mercado, 32, who is wanted for questioning in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
At approximately 3:36 a.m., Police responded to a call of an armed robbery at McCarter Highway near Verona Avenue. Two male victims were scheduled to meet Garcia-Mercado at the location. A silver Acura arrived and two armed males exited the vehicle, robbing both victims of their cash, jewelry, bank cards, cell phones, and other personal belongings. The suspects fled in the vehicle, driven by a third suspect, heading southbound on McCarter Highway.
Detectives investigating this incident are seeking Garcia-Mercado for questioning. He is described as 6-ft. tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
