INCIDENT: Single-Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash
LOCATION: Joshua Road and South Road, Apple Valley, CA
DRIVER 1: Joseph Romo, 39-year-old male resident of Hesperia
PASSENGER: 38-year-old male resident of Apple Valley
VEHICLE 1: White Tesla Model 3
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, October 20, 2024, at approximately 5:18 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department along with American Medical Response responded to a single vehicle roll over crash in the Town of Apple Valley.
Through investigation, deputies determined a white Tesla Model 3 traveled south on Joshua Road from South Road. The Tesla lost control and veered off the west roadway edge, went airborne after hitting a dirt berm, and rolled several times. The driver, Joseph Romo, was flown to a trauma center where he was pronounced deceased on October 26, 2024. The passenger was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and was later released.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and are conducting an investigation. Deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
