Suspect Arrested for Robbery with a Firearm
On October 25, 2024, at 11:08pm, Central Marin Police Authority was dispatched to the area of the multiuse pathway along the Corte Madera Creek near Elizabeth Circle, Greenbrae on a report of an armed robbery. Within minutes, CMPA Officers located the two juvenile victims and learned the suspect (a stranger) approached the two victims while they were conversing on a bench. The suspect produced a handgun with an extended magazine, pointed it at the victims and demanded the keys to one of their electric bicycles. Criminal threats to kill the victim were made and the suspect fled westbound on the stolen bicycle. The victims in this case were physically unharmed. Unbeknownst to the suspect, the stolen bicycle was fitted with a tracking device after being recently recovered in an unrelated theft case.
Due the seriousness of the crime involving a firearm, several allied law enforcement agencies responded to assist. Around 11:43pm, the victim “pinged” the stolen bicycle’s location to the area of Frances Av in Larkspur. Shortly after that, a CMPA Officer located the suspect on the stolen bicycle and the suspect immediately fled up Murray Ln into Kentfield.
A command post was established, along with a multi-agency perimeter and a request for CHP air support. The suspect was located by a CMPA Officer on the stolen e-bike around midnight in the area of Hillcrest Ln at Oak Knoll Rd. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the stolen e-bike was recovered. Officers searched the suspect and area but did not locate a firearm. Two Petaluma Police K-9 Officers that specialize in article and firearm detection responded, but another search for the gun using the canines was unfruitful.
The 15 year-old suspect, a Tiburon resident, was arrested and booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall for the following felonies: 211PC (Robbery), 245(a)(2)PC (Assault with a Deadly Weapon), 422PC (Criminal Threats) and 487PC (Grand Theft).
Out of public safety concern over the outstanding firearm, the following day, Marin County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue unit, a team of highly-trained and dedicated volunteers, responded to conduct a coordinated daylight search for the firearm. After an exhaustive search of the residential area where the suspect was located, fled and taken into custody, no firearm was located.
CMPA would like to thank our law enforcement partners who responded to assist: Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Ross Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Petaluma Police Department, Marin County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue.
