DATE/TIME: Tuesday, October 29, 2024
INCIDENT: PC 457.1- Ason Registrant Compliance Sweep
LOCATION: Cities of Loma Linda, Grand Terrace, Highland and the unincorporated county area in the city of San Bernardino
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, deputies and detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Central Station, Highland Station, Sheriff's Bombs Arson Division, and Arson Investigators from Cal Fire conducted an arson registrant (PC 457.1) compliance sweep.
The sweep was conducted in the cities of Highland, Loma Linda, Grand Terrace, and the unincorporated county area of the city of San Bernardino. California Penal Code 457.1 mandates, all individuals convicted of qualifying arson crimes are required to register as arson offenders for life. Convicted subjects must register, upon release from custody, with their local law enforcement agency within 14 days and notify their local law enforcement agency when moving to a new residence.
The purpose of this compliance sweep was to confirm locations and information for registered arson offenders in the above jurisdictions. Investigators also needed to ensure all arson registrants were within compliance of their terms and conditions of their registration status. Any violations that were located or observed would be documented and criminal cases would be submitted to the San Bernardino County Office of the District Attorney.
During the compliance sweep, investigators attempted to contact 39 registrants who reside within the above areas. Investigators found 18 subjects no longer living at the residence they listed as their residence and may be in violation of their registration status. Additional investigation will be conducted to locate these subjects, and criminal cases will be forward to the District Attorney's Office for review. One of the arson registrants was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant.
The Central Station Detective Bureau conducts PC 457.1 compliance sweeps randomly to help ensure compliance with state laws.
