Pursuit and Arrest of Suspect in a Stolen Vehicle
A suspect driving a stolen vehicle tries to flee from police before being arrested
San Mateo, CA – On October 28, 2024, at 12:12 a.m., San Mateo Police Department was notified that a vehicle was just stolen from East Palo Alto. The stolen vehicle was a beige Toyota Corolla and was captured on our Flock camera system driving into San Mateo. Officers were alerted and began looking for the stolen vehicle.
Officers found the Toyota exiting a parking lot at the intersection of El Camino Real and 17th Avenue. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the vehicle accelerated quickly and fled northbound on El Camino Real. Officers pursued the vehicle north on El Camino Real and called for additional resources. The driver of the stolen car, later identified as Edgar Andrade-Lopez, failed to stop at red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road to flee from officers.
Andrade-Lopez continued to drive north on El Camino Real through Burlingame and into Millbrae. Officers were able to effectively use spike strips to disable the stolen vehicle. Once the stolen car was disable, Andrade-Lopez exited the car and tried to run away, however officers quickly detained him in handcuffs.
Andrade-Lopez was arrested for stealing a vehicle, evading police officers, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license. Andrade-Lopez was transported and booking into the San Mateo County Jail.
We need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness. If you witness a crime, contact police immediately. Try to remain as calm as possible and do your best to answer questions on the phone. Remember details such as the suspect’s appearance, clothing, any distinguishing features, and which direction they flee. Once the police arrive at the scene, cooperate fully, and provide the officers with all the information you have. Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation.

10851(a) VC- Take vehicle without consent of owner, 2800.2(a) VC- Evading police officer with disregard for public safety, 148(a)(1) PC- Resisting police officer, 14601.1(a) VC- Drive with suspended license.
