On October 28, 2024, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the Fremont Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a major injury vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Fremont Police Officers responded to the area of Dunsmuir Common and Colleen Terrace and found an injured three-year-old child. Fremont Police Officers immediately began performing life-saving measures on the injured child. Fremont Fire Department personnel soon took over medical care, but unfortunately, the child succumbed to their injuries on scene.
The Fremont Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded and assumed the collision investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates an adult driver was driving their vehicle forward from a parking stall when a child unexpectedly moved in front of the vehicle. The front left side of the vehicle then struck the child. The driver stopped the vehicle immediately.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but drug or alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor. The driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
This is Fremont's eleventh fatal traffic collision in 2024. Six (6) have occurred on Fremont roadways, three (3) have occurred on state routes, and two (2) on private property.
As we mourn this tragic incident with our community, please respect the family's privacy during this incredibly difficult time. We would also like to remind drivers to always stay vigilant—on the road, in a driveway, or a parking lot. Always scan for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and anything in motion around you.
