Halloween Safety Tips from the South Brunswick Police Department

Happy Halloween, South Brunswick! To ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone, please keep the following safety tips in mind:

For Trick-or-Treaters:

  • Stay Visible: Wear bright or reflective costumes and carry a flashlight.
  • Travel in Groups: Stay with friends or family and only visit well-lit areas.
  • Use Crosswalks: Cross streets at crosswalks or corners and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
  • Approach Safe Homes: Only approach houses with lights on, indicating they are participating in Halloween.
For Parents:
  • Inspect Costumes: Make sure costumes fit well and don’t block vision.
  • Check Treats: Look over all candy for signs of tampering before allowing children to eat them.
  • Set Boundaries: Plan a trick-or-treating route and establish a curfew.
For Drivers:
  • Slow Down: Drive slowly, especially in neighborhoods and residential areas.
  • Stay Alert: Watch for children who may be crossing the street unexpectedly.
  • Avoid Distractions: Keep full attention on the road and avoid phone use.
Let’s work together to make Halloween a safe and fun night for all. Please report any suspicious activity to the South Brunswick Police Department.
