Halloween Safety Tips from the South Brunswick Police Department
Happy Halloween, South Brunswick! To ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone, please keep the following safety tips in mind:
For Trick-or-Treaters:
- Stay Visible: Wear bright or reflective costumes and carry a flashlight.
- Travel in Groups: Stay with friends or family and only visit well-lit areas.
- Use Crosswalks: Cross streets at crosswalks or corners and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
- Approach Safe Homes: Only approach houses with lights on, indicating they are participating in Halloween.
- Inspect Costumes: Make sure costumes fit well and don’t block vision.
- Check Treats: Look over all candy for signs of tampering before allowing children to eat them.
- Set Boundaries: Plan a trick-or-treating route and establish a curfew.
- Slow Down: Drive slowly, especially in neighborhoods and residential areas.
- Stay Alert: Watch for children who may be crossing the street unexpectedly.
- Avoid Distractions: Keep full attention on the road and avoid phone use.
