MAN ARRESTED AFTER CARJACKING WOMAN WHO CAME TO HIS AIDE
On Monday, October 28, 2024, at approximately 11:33 p.m., South Brunswick Police responded to Ridge Road after receiving a report of a carjacking involving a firearm.
A 59-year-old female from Monroe Township reported that, while on the phone with her son, she observed a car crash on Ridge Road near the New Jersey Turnpike overpass. She pulled over to help and observed a man, identified as Ikeice Bell, 34-years-old of Monmouth Junction, exit his crashed vehicle. Mr. Bell approached her vehicle, opened the passenger door, and stated he had a gun, instructing her to get him out of there. The victim reported that she saw what appeared to be a weapon as Mr. Bell returned briefly to his vehicle. When he came back, he repeated that he had a gun and directed her to drive away with him inside her vehicle.
While driving, the female victim discreetly texted her son, alerting him to the presence of a gun and asking him to track her phone location. She then dropped her phone onto the vehicle floor.
The victim’s son contacted South Brunswick Police Dispatch, providing critical details, including a description of his mother’s vehicle and the suspected direction of travel. Officers Jake Pietrefesa and Bruce Redfield located the vehicle on Route 535 and given the serious nature of the allegations, conducted a high-risk traffic stop. Additional officers arrived to assist, and both the victim and Mr. Bell were safely removed from the vehicle. An initial search did not uncover a firearm.
While being secured in a patrol vehicle, Mr. Bell spit at two officers, one of whom was struck in the face and later evaluated at Princeton Medical Center. Mr. Bell was subsequently transported to South Brunswick Police Headquarters, and EMS was called to evaluate him for any injuries from the earlier vehicle crash. Mr. Bell was reportedly uncooperative and made derogatory comments toward the EMTs treating him.
Mr. Bell’s vehicle was located at the original crash scene, towed, and transported to police headquarters. A search warrant will be sought by Detective Brian Luck to try to locate the firearm.
Mr. Bell was charged with Kidnapping, Criminal Restraint, Carjacking, Terroristic Threats, and two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. He has been lodged at the Middlesex County Correctional Facility, awaiting his first court appearance.
The investigation determined that the victim did not know Mr. Bell and was only stopping as a good Samaritan. South Brunswick Police ask anyone with information to contact Detective Brian Luck at (732) 329-4000 ext. 7475.
