Wilmington Police arrest two in connection with June 27 fatal shooting incident:

Wilmington Police have arrested two men in connection with a June 27 fatal shooting incident.
 
On June 27 at approximately 11:05 p.m., police responded to the 300 block of East 23rd Street in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Police located a 57-year-old female gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition. 
 
The victim succumbed to her injuries last week, and has been identified as Michelle Clifton.
 
The case was assigned to Detective Jessica Gledhill of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of her investigation, Detective Gledhill identified 26-year-old Gyheim Fitzgerald and 22-year-old Ke’shawn Fortune as suspects, and warrants were obtained for their arrest on October 29.
 
On October 30, Fitzgerald was taken into custody without incident by members of the Uniformed Services Division in the 300 block of East 23rd Street. On November 1, Fortune was located and taken into custody by the New Castle County Police Department.
 
Fitzgerald has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Attempted Murder (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
  • Conspiracy (First Degree)
  • Criminal Mischief – Three Counts
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $568,796 cash-only bail.
 
Fortune has been charged with the following offenses:
  • Attempted Murder (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
  • Conspiracy (First Degree)
  • Criminal Mischief – Three Counts
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,135,500 cash-only bail.
 
Following the victim’s death, investigators are working in conjunction with the Delaware Department of Justice to upgrade the charges against both suspects.
