Groundbreaking Ceremony for Kennedy Manor in East Chicago’s Calumet Area
East Chicago, IN — November 1, 2024 – The City of East Chicago is excited to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kennedy Manor, a new affordable housing project designed to revitalize the Calumet neighborhood. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., at 4823 Kennedy Avenue.
This $1.3 million project is a collaborative effort between the East Chicago Department of Redevelopment, the East Chicago Housing Authority (ECHA), and the East Chicago Urban Enterprise Authority (ECUEA). First Metropolitan Builders will lead the construction efforts for the development of this crucial addition to the East Chicago community.
The Kennedy Manor Home project reflects the city’s commitment to creating safe, high-quality, and affordable housing options that foster growth, stability, and prosperity in local neighborhoods. Once complete, the development will provide families with a comfortable and modern place to call home, enhancing the quality of life for residents and contributing to the ongoing revitalization of East Chicago’s Calumet area.
“This project is a testament to what we can accomplish when community organizations unite for the common good,” said Mayor Anthony Copeland “We’re thrilled to work with ECHA, ECUEA, and First Metropolitan Builders to bring new, affordable housing options to the area and provide a foundation for our community to grow.”
