MERIDIAN- On Monday, November 4th at approximately 11:40am, two Meridian Police officers were traveling southbound on Meridian Road in a marked patrol unit (Ford Explorer). As the officers were passing through the intersection at Franklin Road, a silver Toyota Corolla, driven by a 19-year-old male traveling eastbound on Franklin Road, ran the red light and struck the police vehicle in the passenger side. This impact caused the police explorer to collide with a blue Chrysler 300, which was also traveling southbound.
Both officers in the patrol vehicle suffered injuries following the collision and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility. The driver of the Chrysler 300 was also transported to a local hospital.
The Idaho State Police are investigating the accident and cited the driver of the Toyota Carolla for misdemeanor inattentive driving.
The Meridian Police Department is thankful that the outlook on injuries to everyone involved is positive, but want to take this time to remind everyone of the risks of distracted driving and the importance of giving their full time and attention to the roadway when operating a vehicle.
