INCIDENT: Sedan vs Pedestrian Fatal Traffic Crash
LOCATION: Outer Highway 18 North and west of Erie Road, Apple Valley, CA
PEDESTRIAN 1: 37-year-old male resident of Apple Valley
DRIVER 2: 26-year-old resident of Victorville
VEHICLE 2: Orange Chevrolet Sonic
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at approximately 5:12 AM, deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District responded to a sedan and pedestrian traffic crash that occurred on Outer Highway 18 North west of the intersection of Erie Road, in the Town of Apple Valley.
Through investigation, deputies determined an Orange Chevrolet Sonic traveled east on Outer Highway 18 North toward the intersection of Erie Road. The pedestrian walked east in the lane of Outer Highway 18 North towards Erie Road. The Chevrolet drove eastbound Outer Highway 18 North and sideswiped the pedestrian near the intersection with Erie Road. The driver of the Chevrolet stayed on scene throughout the investigation and cooperated with law enforcement. Medical personnel performed lifesaving measures, but the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and are conducting an investigation. Westbound lanes of State Highway 18 were closed between the intersections of Flathead Road and Dale Evans Pkwy for approximately 4 hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and looked for video surveillance and potential witnesses.
