SCAM ALERT: Caller Identifies himself as Lieutenant Carver
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a new phone scam.
The caller is advising that he is Lieutenant Seth Carver with McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and is reaching out because of a failure to appear for jury duty. The caller then advises that an amount of money is required to pay a fine or else a warrant for arrest will be issued.
It should also be noted that the phone number is local and upon returning the call, a voicemail states that the number belongs to Lt. Carver. However, this is also false.
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office will never issue a phone call telling anyone to pay any amount of money with the threat of arrest. Please, do not give money or personal information to someone you don’t know. For questions or concerns, please call the Sheriff’s Office at (828) 652-2235.
