Wilmington Police arrest two males in connection to armed carjacking:
Wilmington Police have arrested two males in connection to an armed carjacking following an investigation.
On September 18, at approximately 12:17 a.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the area of Lovering Avenue and North Van Buren Street in reference to an armed carjacking. A short time later, police observed the stolen vehicle in the area of West 6th and North Union Streets, at which time the vehicle fled the area. The stolen vehicle was later recovered unoccupied in the 2700 block of West 5th Street. The case was assigned to Detective Thomas Rittenhouse of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Through the course of his investigation Detective Rittenhouse identified 18-year-old Donald Shepherd and a 17-year-old male juvenile as suspects, and obtained warrants for their arrest. On October 9, Shepherd was taken into custody without incident in the 300 block of North Rodney Street. On November 6, the 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody during an unrelated incident.
Shepherd has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
The 17-year-old male juvenile has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal – Two Counts
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
