The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2024:
 
9:30 AM Officer Frentescu initiated a traffic stop on Balentine Dr. A 49-year-old male was cited for driving with a suspended license, false vehicle registration sticker, and failing to yield at a stop sign.
 
10:26 AM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a commercial burglary reported near Central Ave & Morton Ave.
 
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2024:
 
12:37 AM Officers responded to the report of gunshots and a vehicle burglary near Cedar Blvd & Mowry Ave. A side passenger window was observed shattered, items reported taken included specialized industrial tools.
 
2:54 AM Officers responded to a commercial burglary near Cedar Blvd & Stevenson Ave. The loss is currently unknown.
 
8:34 AM Officer Diaz-Perez investigated a vehicle theft near Edgewater Dr & Lake Blvd.
 
11:31 AM Officers responded to multiple package theft reports near Hickory St & Seawind Way.
 
12:23 PM Officer Shaffer responded to an attempted commercial burglary near Jarvis Ave & Haley St. It was determined a tool was used to pry the lock and entry was not made.
 
12:42 PM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to Newpark Mall Road on the report of a stolen purse that was taken from the front passenger seat of a vehicle.
 
3:43 PM Officer Dale responded to a commercial burglary near Jarvis Ave & Fircrest St. The loss is currently unknown.
 
3:57 PM Officer Losier investigated a residential burglary near Enterprise Dr & Hickory St. An open garage was entered with the reported loss of a portable vacuum cleaner and various tools.
 
11:28 PM Officer Soto investigated the report of a stolen license plate taken near Joaquin Murieta Ave & Cherry St.
 
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2024:
 
6:56 AM Officers were dispatched to the report of gunshots heard near Ash St & Wells Ave. A 22-year-old male was arrested for obstructing arrest, shooting at a dwelling, and illegal possessions of a firearm, ammunition, and assault weapon as a felon. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:13 AM CSO Lau responded to Cherry St & Buena Vista Dr for multiple reports of license plate thefts.
 
12:16 PM CSO Lau investigated a commercial burglary near Central & Morton Avenues. A door lock was discovered damaged and forced open for entry. Reported loss included various industrial tools, equipment and batteries.
 
11:51 PM Officer C. Torres responded to two vehicle burglaries reported near Jarvis Ave & Gateway Blvd. A wallet and sunglasses were taken.
 
12:44 PM Officer Dale investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Robertson Ave & Iris Court. Miscellaneous cash was reported taken from the glove box.
 
3:39 PM CSO Mora & Officer Shaffer investigated multiple license plate thefts reported along Cherry St.
 
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2024:
 
1:07 AM Officer Shaffer was on routine patrol near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave and observed a known 42-year-old male with active warrants. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:39 AM CSO Lau responded to Cherry St & Thornton Ave on the report of a scooter taken from the driveway.
 
10:43 AM Officer Lor investigated a report of jewelry taken from a person near Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd.
 
6:39 PM Officer Shaffer responded to a disturbance reported near Newark Blvd & Central Ave. It was determined a 22-year-old male was in possession of a weapon. He was arrested for brandishing a weapon, possession of narcotics, and illegal possession of ammunition and burglary tools. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
8:49 PM Officer Dale investigated the grand theft of merchandise from a business on Newpark Mall Road.  
 
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2024:
 
3:00 AM Officers investigated multiple vehicle burglaries reported near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave.
 
9:41 AM Officer C. Torres investigated multiple vehicle burglaries near Chapman & Blackburn Drives. Reported loss included registration paperwork taken from the glovebox.
 
9:49 AM Officer Orozco investigated a license plate theft near Cherry St & Buena Vista Dr.
 
2:43 PM Officer Media responded to a disturbance reported near Port Sailwood Drive & Cedar Blvd. A 22-year-old female was arrested on various charges including an outstanding warrant, violation of a court order, and obstructing/resisting arrest. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
7:07 PM Officer Stevenson investigated a bicycle theft reported near Haley & Bettencourt Streets.
 
10:15 PM Officer Swadener was dispatched to a medical emergency reported near Cherry St & Thornton Ave. A 33-year-old male at this location was arrested for violation of a court order and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2024:
 
7:03 AM Officer Leath responded to an attempted vehicle theft reported near Lido Blvd & Jarvis Ave. A vehicle was observed with a smashed-in window and steering column components missing.
 
8:23 AM Officer Orozco investigated a commercial burglary near Central & Morton Avenues. The door was pried open and reported loss included parts and materials from a generator.
 
10:04 AM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle theft reported near Cedar & Newark Boulevards.
 
4:10 PM CSO Vuong recovered a stolen vehicle located near Cherry St & La Salle Dr.
 
6:33 PM Officer Lara investigated the theft of a scooter near Magnolia St & Thornton Ave.
 
8:20 PM CSO Vuong transported a 25-year-old male with outstanding warrants to Santa Rita Jail.
 
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2024:
 
12:15 AM Officer Williams initiated a traffic stop near Cherry St & Central Ave. The driver, a 61-year-old male, was cited for driving with a suspended license and false registration.
 
7:35 AM Officer Leath investigated a window smash vehicle burglary reported near Cherry St & Thornton Ave. Loss is currently unknown.
 
1:04 PM Officer Orozco investigated a package theft reported near Enterprise Dr & Willow St.
