DATE/TIME: Tuesday, November 12, 2024
INCIDENT: PC 290 - Sex Registrant Compliance Sweep
LOCATION: Cities of Loma Linda, Grand Terrace and the unincorporated county area of San Bernardino
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Central Station, conducted a sex registrant (PC 290) compliance sweep in the cities of Loma Linda and Grand Terrace, and the unincorporated county area of San Bernardino. Per California Penal Code 290, individuals convicted of qualifying sex crimes and are required to register as sex offenders. Convicted subjects are required to register upon release from custody, with their local law enforcement agency within five days of their birthday annually, and within five days of moving to a new residence. Additionally, registrants who register as transient are required to register every 30 days.
The purpose of compliance sweeps is to confirm locations and information for registered sex offenders in the above jurisdictions and locate registered sex offenders who are out of compliance with the terms and conditions of their sex registrant status. If violations are located, cases are submitted to the San Bernardino County Office of the District Attorney for filing.
During this compliance sweep, deputies attempted to contact 47 registrants in cities of Loma Linda, Grand Terrace, and the unincorporated county area of San Bernardino. Deputies found three subjects no longer living at the residence they listed and may be in violation. Additional investigation will be conducted to locate these subjects, and the cases will be forwarded to the Office of the District Attorney if appropriate.
Four times per year (quarterly), Central Station deputies conduct PC 290 compliance sweeps randomly to help ensure compliance with state laws.
