The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office continues to receive numerous reports of scammers calling and texting residents identifying themselves, by name, as various local law enforcement officers. The calls appear to be “spoofed” phone numbers (meaning the caller falsifies information transmitted to your Caller ID). The "spoofed" phone numbers have been disguised as from the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and other regional law enforcement agencies.
The Bonner County Sheriff's Office does not call citizens over the phone requesting money, in any form, including gift cards or Bitcoin. Just hang up!
Scammers say the person receiving the call has missed Jury Duty or has an Arrest Warrant. To avoid arrest they must pay a fine or bail money.
