Upon arrival, first responders confirmed the presence of the brush fire and immediately began combating the flames. By approximately 6:36 AM, the fire was extinguished and contained. As a precautionary measure, Haledon Fire Prevention Bureau Chief Robert Devirgilio and Fire Chief Baker have implemented a Fire Watch in the area until further notice.
This incident underscores ongoing fire prevention concerns in North Jersey, particularly during dry conditions when brush fires can escalate rapidly. According to reports from the Haledon Office of Emergency Management and the Haledon Fire Prevention Bureau, our region remains under a Red Flag Warning. Residents are strongly advised against any outdoor burning during this period.
Residents are reminded to take the following precautions:
- Maintain a defensible space around properties by clearing dry vegetation and debris.
- Report any downed power lines promptly, as they can pose significant fire hazards.
- Adhere to fire regulations and avoid outdoor burning, especially on windy days.
Mayor Michael Johnson commended the swift and professional response of first responders, stating, "I am immensely grateful for the amazing efforts of our firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency personnel. Their quick action in responding to and containing the brush fire clearly safeguarded our community. We are fortunate to have such dedicated individuals ensuring our safety."
Haledon Fire Chief Baker added, "We must remain vigilant and work together as a community to mitigate fire risks. Collaboration between agencies is crucial in ensuring the safety of our residents."
The Borough of Haledon remains in ongoing communication with the Passaic County Office of Emergency Management and Braen Stone Industries to ensure the area remains safe. Any questions regarding fire prevention should be addressed to Haledon Fire Marshal Robert DeVirgilio at 973-595-7766 Extension 135.
