Drinking Leads to Felony Vandalism Arrest
Intoxicated subject arrested after causing thousands of dollars of damage.
San Mateo, CA – On Friday, November 15, 2024, at 3:31pm, San Mateo Police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of 36th Avenue on report of a male subject who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and actively breaking things inside an apartment. Officers spoke with the reporting party and learned the subject, identified as Marvin Ramos, was making slurs and damaging items belonging to the witness, who was a roommate. Ramos also assaulted the roommate, slapping him in the face.
While on scene, officers witnessed (a heavily intoxicated) Ramos’ behavior, that now included the breaking of windows belonging to the apartment complex and throwing items out the window like a tv and fish tank. Officers attempted to de-escalate Ramos to calm him and his behavior. The reporting party was able to leave the residence, but it was learned another subject had to barricade herself in a bedroom to avoid Ramos’ actions. Because the witness wished to pursue a citizen’s arrest against Ramos and with the on-view charges officers were observing, after attempting to negotiate with Ramos for his surrender, the decision to utilize a less lethal weapon was made in order to prevent Ramos from continuing to act violent towards the apartment or anyone that remained inside. A 40mm less than lethal projectile was used to subdue Ramos, enough for officers to take him into custody. He continued to resist arrest but was ultimately transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
Ramos caused an estimated $3890 in damage to the apartment complex, as well as over $500 in damage within the apartment. Once he was medically cleared, he was transported to San Mateo County Jail where he was booked on the below charges.
