Three Arrested for Auto Burglary
Officers arrested three suspects for auto burglary and other crimes.
San Mateo, CA – On November 19, 2024, at 1:17 a.m., San Mateo Police Department received a call that a vehicle was actively being broken into on the 400 block of North Bayshore Boulevard. The suspects broke a window of a utility work truck and were attempting to steal tools from the vehicle. As officers were on the way, the suspects got into a white Dodge Charger with paper plates and fled northbound on Bayshore Boulevard before police could arrive.
Officers arrived on scene and started to investigate the auto burglary. Officers found camera footage of the suspects and of the vehicle the suspects were driving. Officers continued to search for the suspect vehicle and found it approximately 30 minutes later near the intersection of Hillsdale Boulevard and South Norfolk Street.
Upon seeing police, the vehicle immediately fled the area and drove onto northbound Highway 101, then merged onto eastbound Highway 92 before being stopped by officers. The white Dodge Charger stopped on Highway 92 near the Edgewater exit. The three suspects inside the vehicle were safely detained.
Officers discovered the Dodge Charger was previously reported stolen from Fremont. Inside of the stolen vehicle the suspects were driving, officers found the back seat was full of suspected stolen tools, tool bags, and toolboxes. The driver of the stolen vehicle, Javier Macias, and the two passengers, Ernesto Torres and a juvenile were all placed under arrest for multiple charges including auto burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle. Macias and Torres were booked into San Mateo County Jail.
This incident if still under investigation and officers are trying to locate the owners of all the suspected stolen tools, tool bags and toolboxes. We ask if you had tools stolen from your vehicle during the night of November 18 or the early morning hours of November 19, please contact SMPD.
