28 People Arrested After Intentionally Blocking Entry Gates to Travis Air Force Base
Last week, the Fairfield Police Department became aware that several people intended to protest issues in the Middle East at Travis Air Force Base today.
This morning, at around 6:30 am, approximately 50 protesters arrived at Travis Air Force Base, and dispersed to the entrance gates. Participants were advised that, while peaceful protests were entirely within the exercise of their constitutional rights, they could not block the roadway.
Several protestors ignored this instruction, spilling out into the road and intentionally blocking access to the base.
After asking protestors to leave the roadway several times, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office arrested 6 people at the South Gate, while Fairfield Police officers arrested 20 at the main gate and 2 at the North Gate, with the assistance of Vacaville Police Department. In total, 28 people were arrested.
No force was used and neither protestors nor law enforcement personnel suffered injury.
The protest concluded by 9:30 am.
Fairfield Police would like to thank the Vacaville, Benicia, Suisun City and Dixon Police Departments, and the Solano County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this morning’s events. Fairfield PD also worked collaboratively with Travis Air Force Base personnel for this incident and would like to thank Team Travis for their continuing partnership.
