Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Adult Male Arrested For Multiple Motor Vehicle Burglaries

On Thursday, 11/21/2024 at approximately 1:21 am, officers were dispatched to the area of the Old Black Horse Pike, in the Hilltop section of Gloucester Township for report of a male, wearing dark colored clothing, attempting to burglarize a vehicle.  GTPD received additional information that the same subject burglarized more vehicles during the investigation.  The suspect attempted to burglarize a total of five vehicles, successfully making entry into four unlocked vehicles where the suspect was able to steal various items.

Patrol officers located a suspect matching the description provided by the original caller on Landing Road.  The suspect, later identified as Gilbert J. Ferguson, fled on foot from officers but was quickly detained after a brief foot pursuit, a short time later on Brewer Avenue.  Mr. Ferguson had various proceeds in his possession leading officers to additional vehicles which had been burglarized in the area, by him.  Mr. Ferguson was transported to Gloucester Township Police Department, was processed and charged with four counts of Burglary (3rd degree), one count of Criminal Attempt Burglary (3rd degree), one count of Theft (4th degree) and one count of Theft (disorderly persons offense).

Gilbert Ferguson was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in accordance with the New Jersey Criminal Justice Reform Act (Bail Reform Act).

The Gloucester Township Police Department would like to remind you that PREVENTION IS KEY. There many tips on how to prevent car burglaries. A vast majority of car burglaries happen to unlocked cars, so we would like to remind residents to lock your vehicle doors and close the windows.

  • ALWAYS lock all doors and close windows.
  • REMOVE any valuable items in your vehicle. Items and currency that are left in the vehicle should be kept out of sight.
  • Park in a well-lit area during evening hours. If you park in a garage make sure it is locked.
  • Set an alarm or use anti-theft devices.
  • Call the Gloucester Township Police Department if you see any suspicious and/or criminal activity in the area.
