CORRECTION: Deputies Respond to Fight in Rancho Cucamonga and Discover Two People had been Injured

INCIDENT: PC 245 – Assault with a Deadly Weapon
      
LOCATION: 9700 block of 7th Street, Racho Cucamonga

INVOLVED PARTY(S): Raymond Barrera, Age 22, Resident of Covina

INCIDENT: PC 246.3 Negligent Discharge of a Firearm

When the firearm discharged, it struck some metal, and the security guard was injured by shrapnel.  No arrests were made, and the investigation is ongoing.

SUMMARY: On Friday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 10:25 P.M., deputies responded to a business in the 9700 block of 7th Street reference an assault and shots fired in the city of Rancho Cucamonga. The reporting party advised an unknown subject was involved in a physical altercation inside of the business and shots were fired. The reporting party was not able to provide dispatch with a description of the involved parties, but believed a security guard was injured. 

Deputies arrived on scene, contacted the reporting party and were informed several subjects fought inside of the business. During the fight, a subject, later identified as Raymond Barrera, was being assaulted by several subjects and removed a firearm from his waistband. The involved parties fought for possession of the firearm and during the fight, the gun discharged striking a security guard. The subjects immediately scattered out of the business and the security guard suffered non-life-threatening injuries to both legs. Deputies searched the area and located Barrera, bleeding profusely from injuries to his head and face. Deputies recovered the firearm inside of the business. Barrera and the injured security guard were treated at local hospitals for their injuries.
