Become a Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Explorer!
Are you 14–19 years old and passionate about law enforcement? The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Explorer Academy offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on training and experience while serving your community.
The next academy starts February 2025 at the STARS Center in Whittier. This 15-week program, held on Saturdays, provides training in:
- Laws, report writing, and handcuffing
- Handling calls for service, including domestic violence, traffic stops, and active shooters
- Search techniques and teamwork skills
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be 14–19 years old
- Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Have no serious criminal record or probation history
- Pass a drug screening and background check
Once graduated, Explorers are assigned to Crescenta Valley Station and can assist with ride-alongs in La Cañada Flintridge or La Crescenta, as well as at other LASD stations. They also contribute to community events like:
- La Cañada Fiesta Days Parade
- Turkey Trot
- National Night Out
- Haunted Jail
Meetings are typically held twice a month, accommodating holidays, school, and family commitments. Many of our Explorers have gone on to prestigious careers in law enforcement, the military, and beyond.
