Community Alert,

Recently there has been a rash of manhole covers being removed from sewers throughout the city, specifically the Southside.  Manhole covers are the property of the City of East Chicago, are costly to replace and some require an extended period of time to produce. 

Most importantly, they are placed for the safety of all passing through the streets. We ask if you come across a missing manhole or drain cover that you don't hesitate to get in touch with the EC Sanitary Dist. at 219-391-8466. 

Also, if you see anyone trying to remove a cover, or any suspicious activity, you are asked to please call the police dept. (non-emergency line) 219-660-0000 or Anonymous Tip Line 219-391-8500. Remember, for your safety, please do not confront anyone.
