Man and Dog Struck by Vehicle - Driver Arrested After Fleeing Scene
On Saturday, November 30, 2024, shortly after midnight, a man and his dog were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highland Boulevard and Marlborough Avenue. Tragically, the dog was killed in the crash, and the man, identified as Syed Hoque, 25, of Absecon was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, prompting a 9-1-1 call from a passing motorist. Officers conducted a thorough search of the area and located a vehicle matching the description. A motor vehicle stop was initiated, and officers arrested Byron A. Jones, 52, of Mays Landing.
This crash is under active investigation by the Absecon Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit in cooperation with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. The Absecon Police Department would like to thank the Galloway Township Police Department and the Absecon Fire Department for their assistance in this investigation.
