Detective Kyle Gibson with McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 58-year-old Scotty Everette Vess of Old Fort with felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon to Inflict Serious Injury. He was given a secured bond in the amount of $100,000.
On Wednesday, November 27, deputies responded to a shooting incident in the Crooked Creek area of Old Fort. Upon arrival, it was discovered that an altercation had taken place, resulting in a gunshot wound victim. The victim had been shot in the leg by Vess after breaking up a fight between an additional person and Vess.
