Officers arrest two separate suspects for two different thefts from Macys. 
 
San Mateo, CA – On December 3, 2024, San Mateo Police Officers assigned to the Hillsdale Shopping Center during this holiday season arrested two suspects from two different thefts from Macys, located at the shopping center.    
 
At 4:08 p.m., officers received a call from Macys Loss Prevention Agents about a theft that just occurred.  The male suspect, later identified as Carlos Duarte-Umul, had stolen over $500 worth of merchandise from the store.  Once Duarte-Umul was outside the store, Loss Prevention Agents stopped him, and he began to fight with the store employees.  Duarte-Umul was detained as the officers investigated the crime.  Duarte-Umul was arrested for robbery and transported and booked into San Mateo County Jail. 
 
 A few hours later, at 7:05 p.m., our officer received another call from Macys Loss Prevention Agents regarding another theft.  This suspect, later identified as Christopher Boyle, was stopped outside the store after he stole almost $1,200 worth of merchandise.  The items were recovered and returned to Macys.  Boyle was arrested for Organized Retail Theft and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.    
 
We need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness.  If you witness a crime, contact police immediately.  Try to remain as calm as possible and do your best to answer questions on the phone.  Remember details such as the suspect’s appearance, clothing, any distinguishing features, and which direction they flee. Once the police arrive at the scene, cooperate fully, and provide the officers with all the information you have.  Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation.

CHARGES:
212.5(c) PC- Second degree robbery.
 
ARRESTED
Christopher Boyle, 41-year-old San Francisco resident.
CHARGES:
490.4(a)(1) PC- Organized Retail Theft.
