Sheriff Dirkse Issues Statement Regarding Racial Epithets
For release: 5:30 p.m., December 4, 2024
Modesto, California –
The Sheriff’s Office is aware of disturbing and hateful graffiti found in South Modesto, specifically the Parklawn neighborhood, which included offensive racial slurs. This type of behavior is absolutely unacceptable in our community and goes against the values we stand for.
We want to make it clear that these actions will not be tolerated. Racial hatred, bigotry, and violence have no place in Stanislaus County. Our office is working closely with community members and community leaders to investigate these incidents thoroughly. Those responsible will be held accountable.
We stand in solidarity with all our residents, regardless of race, religion, or background. This incident does not define our community, and we will continue to foster an environment of acceptance, respect, and unity. If anyone has any information about the individuals involved in these acts, I urge you to come forward. Let us work together to ensure that our community remains a place where everyone feels safe and valued.
Any type of graffiti that is associated with hate speech or racial slurs should be immediately reported to law enforcement. Incidents can be reported to Sheriff’s Dispatch via the non-emergency line at 209-552-2468, or if you would like to remain anonymous, you may call Stanislaus County Area Crime Stoppers at 1-866-60-CRIME. Please do not wait for a community meeting to make the initial report of these types of incidents. This can delay the investigative process.
