Below is the latest information concerning the two wildfires in McDowell County. Emergency personnel from local fire departments, USFS, NCFS, and Emergency Management continue to work together to extinguish these fires.
Buck Creek Fire:
Estimated at 55 acres with 20% containment.
The fire started near Geneva Drive and is currently burning on USFS land. No structures are threatened and there are no active evacuations orders.
Newberry Creek Fire:
Estimated at 5 acres with 100% containment. Personnel will be working in the area to mop up hot spots. No structures threatened and there are no active evacuation orders.
Please avoid these areas to promote safety for all personnel working these fires. Report all wildfires to 911.
