Buck Creek Fire grows to 120 acres with 20% containment. Emergency personnel remain on the scene. 
As of Saturday morning, the Buck Creek Fire has grown to 120 acres with 20% containment. Emergency personnel are protecting four structures on the east side of NC 80 near Sugar Cove Rd. Currently, there are no evacuation orders. Smoke from the fire will continue to affect the area and drift across other parts of McDowell County throughout the day. Please avoid NC 80 north of Lake Tahoma as there is a large amount of traffic on NC 80 due to flood recovery efforts and firefighting activities..
On Saturday morning, the US Forest Service also updated Emergency Management on the Newberry Creek Fire. The fire is 100% contained and has burned a total of 5 acres. Firefighters continue to patrol this area looking for hot spots.
