Update: Bomb Threat - Tamalpais High School
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 10:49am, the Mill Valley Police Department received information from the Veteran’s Crisis Line that they had received threats, via text message, of explosive devices being planted inside Tamalpais High School.
Mill Valley Police immediately contacted school administrators and made their way to campus. Based on the information provided, school administrators began their evacuation protocols.
Students and staff were initially moved away from the buildings and onto the athletic fields. Staff then escorted the students to a reunification point at the Mill Valley Community Center.
The Mill Valley Police Department requested additional assistance from allied agencies in establishing a perimeter around the school. Additional resources such as the Berkeley Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and trained service K9’s were requested.
Mill Valley Police was assisted by Tiburon Police, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Central Marin Police Authority, and Southern Marin Fire Department.
Seven service K9’s and handlers from UC Berkeley Police, Coast Guard, Petaluma Police, Emeryville Police, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, and Department of Homeland Security responded to Mill Valley to conduct a systematic search of the high school campus for any explosive devices. The Berkeley Police EOD Unit were on scene in the event any devices were located.
The search of the campus took approximately two hours. No incendiary or explosive devices or other items of concern were located. Mill Valley Police would like to thank the staff and faculty of Tamalpais High School and the Tamalpais Unified High School District for working in partnership to ensure the safety and well-being of the students and staff. Mill Valley Police is grateful to all the allied agencies that assisted in today’s response.
