Duke Energy is assisting customers impacted by Hurricane Helene by removing meters, disconnecting service wires, and suspending billing for properties that cannot receive electric service due to damage or inaccessibility. State Hazard Mitigation Team to Assist McDowell County Homeowners with Grant Applications
The State Hazard Mitigation Team will be at McDowell County Emergency Services Headquarters, located at 129 Barnes Rd., Marion, NC, on December 19, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. They will assist homeowners with completing their Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) applications. No appointment is necessary—just stop by during the event. Debris Removal Efforts Continue in McDowell County
As of December 10, 27,992.9 cubic yards of debris and 2,676.03 tons of soil have been removed from Old Fort as part of the ongoing recovery efforts. Today, 51 dump trucks are actively operating throughout Old Fort, continuing the work of storm debris and soil removal. Due to inclement weather, all tree-cutting operations are temporarily paused. Crews will resume tree removal work as soon as weather conditions allow, prioritizing safety for all personnel.
