Special Weather Statement until 06:00PM
A cold front is bringing rain to the region. In addition, isolated thunderstorms this afternoon will produce gusty winds as well as periods of heavier rain. The Storm Prediction Center has placed eastern New Jersey and Southern Delaware in a Slight Risk. This means the threat for severe weather is a level two out of five. Strong winds are the biggest threat. Besides the isolated thunderstorms, heavy rain is also expected. Anywhere between one and three inches will fall through this evening. Since it's been quite dry over the last two months, river flooding is not expected. But because of snowmelt well to our north combined with the rainfall, the mainstem Delaware River will see rises to half to three-quarter bankful over the next couple of days. Other mainstem rivers will also see rises, but no flooding is expected. Urban areas are more immune to a lack of rain or drought. This said, nuisance and poor drainage flooding can be expected across our urban environments that experience the heaviest rains. More impactful flash flooding is also possible, although chances are low.
