The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from October 27th to November 2nd
October 27th
Driving Under the Influence / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - San Pablo Ave. / Potrero Ave.
At 3:24 AM, officers were dispatched to the area for an erratic driver. Officers located the vehicle several blocks away and noticed the driver passed out in the driver’s seat. Officers witnessed opened beer cans along with a glass pipe commonly used for smoking narcotics inside the vehicle. Officers contacted the driver and conducted a DUI investigation. During the investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
Shoplift – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 11:18 AM, a suspect stole items and fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Mateo Ave. / Central Ave.
At 4:50 PM, an officer located an unoccupied vehicle reported stolen to Albany PD on 06/28/2024. The vehicle was released on scene.
Driving Under the Influence - San Pablo Ave. / MacDonald Ave.
At 8:01 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
October 28th
Public Intoxication – 11780 San Pablo Ave.
At 1:14 PM, officers were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated subject wearing no pants, trying to get into their car, and drive out of the lot. Officers contacted the suspect and found they were highly intoxicated, refused numerous requests from officers for their identification, and failed to return to their apartment under their own power. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Possession of a Stolen Vehicle / Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm - 11400 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 5:22 AM, officers received a FLOCK notification of a stolen vehicle in the city. Officers located the vehicle in the Safeway parking lot and noticed a subject walking away from the vehicle. Officers ordered the subject to stop, but the suspect refused and fled. After a short foot pursuit, the subject was detained. During a search incident to arrest, the subject was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. Officers conducted a records check and discovered the subject was a convicted felon. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
October 29th
Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 7:41 PM, Officers were flagged down by Marshalls Loss Prevention agents regarding a theft at the store. The suspect was detained by the agents and turned over to police custody. During the investigation, officers found the suspect to have an outstanding warrant. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation.
October 30th
Battery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway):
At 10:54 AM, officers took a report of a battery which occurred in the parking lot of Safeway. The victim was assaulted by two suspects who fled prior to police arrival.
Grand Theft - 7200 Block of Potrero Ave.
At 11:29 AM, Officers report a theft of copper telephone cable wires.
Public Intoxication - Moeser Ln. / King Dr.
At 6:18 PM, officers responded to the area for a subject in distress. Officers located a intoxicated subject, who was unable to care for themselves. The subject was transported to a local hospital by an ambulance. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
Vandalism - 2500 Block of Mira Vista Dr.
At 6:43 PM, an officer reports a suspect cut the copper telephone wires on the victim’s box.
Robbery - 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 7:25 PM, an officer reports a victim was approached by the suspect who brandished a firearm and demanded their property. The victim turned over their property and the suspect fled the area.
October 31st
Grand Theft – Alta Punta Ave.
At 10:06 AM, officers reported approximately 150 feet of copper wire was stolen.
Vandalism – Barrett Ave.
Sometime between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM, the victim reports the tires to their vehicle were slashed.
Commercial Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24hr Fitness):
At 3:49 PM, the victim reports their credit card was stolen from within their locked locker.
November 1st
Grand Theft – 900 block of Kearney St.
At 10:50 AM, an officer reports a suspect stole two electric bikes between 10/31/2024 at 4:30 PM and 11/01/2024 at 9:30 AM.
Shoplift – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 12:27 PM, an officer reports a known frequent offender stole merchandise and fled prior to police arrival.
Warrant Arrest – 10900 San Pablo Ave. (ECPD):
At 2:02 PM, a subject turned themselves in on an outstanding warrant. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Carjacking – 7000 El Cerrito Plaza (Daiso):
At 6:28 PM, an officer reports a suspect grabbed the victim’s car keys from the victim’s hand and stole their vehicle.
Shoplift - 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 7:34 PM, an officer reports a suspect concealed merchandise in a garbage bag and fled prior to police arrival.
Shoplift - 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
While officers were investigating the incident above, store employees advised of another theft that had occurred. Officers were advised a suspect had fled the business with unpaid merchandise.
Residential Burglary - 6600 Block of Schmidt Ln.
At 8:11 PM, an officer reports a suspect pried the rear slide door of the victim’s residence to gain entry and stole property.
Theft by Deception - 6600 Block of Stockton Ave.
At 10:25 PM, an officer reports the victim responded to an ad to rent an apartment. The victim paid fees to apply for the apartment and later discovered the subject they were communicating with was not the owner of the apartment.
Theft by Deception – 900 Block of Liberty St.
At 10:48 PM, an officer reports the victim was contacted by the suspect and given a check. The victim deposited the check the suspect had forwarded to them. The victim was asked to wire a portion of the money back to the suspect. After wiring the money back, the victim discovered the check received was a fraudulent check.
November 2nd
Grand Theft – 900 block of Kearney St.
At 8:59 AM, an officer reports the theft of two more bicycles from the apartment complex carport.
Harassing Phone Calls – 6500 block of Stockton Ave.
At 12:10 PM, an officer reports the victim has been receiving harassing phone calls.
Petty Theft - 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 9:30 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole the victim’s wallet from a baskart while shopping.
