Multiple Drug Charges for Marion Man
Detective Matt Smith of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged Joseph Ryan Kelley, 48, of Marion, with the following offenses:
- Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
- Felony Possession of Methamphetamine
- Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver (PWIMSD) a Schedule II Controlled Substance
- Felony PWIMSD a Schedule I Controlled Substance
- Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
Kelley was denied bond as he was out on pretrial release at the time of the incident.
On Tuesday, December 3, detectives attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Cadillac Escalade for vehicle violations. However, the vehicle failed to stop for law enforcement. During this time, Kelley, who was the driver, discarded multiple bags of narcotics from the vehicle’s window. These items were later recovered and were found to include suspected quantities of crack cocaine and fentanyl.
Once the vehicle was stopped, both Kelley and the Escalade were searched. Detectives recovered an unspecified amount of U.S. currency and a cell phone.
After Kelley was taken into custody and transported to the magistrate’s office, additional narcotics were discovered on his person. These included suspected amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
