Wilmington Police have arrested a man on financial charges following an investigation.
On December 3, at approximately 1:00 p.m., police responded to the 900 block of North Market Street in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, police were informed of a theft of $81,000 that had occurred. The case was assigned to Detective Michael Hayman of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Through the course of his investigation, Detective Hayman identified 35-year-old Vannia Chatt Jr. as a suspect, and obtained warrants for his arrest. On December 12, police executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Wright Street and took Chatt into custody without incident.
Chatt Jr. has been charged with the following offenses:
- Theft Over $50,000
- Attempted Theft Over $50,000
- Identity Theft – Three Counts
- Attempted Theft Over $1,500
- Attempted Theft Under $1,500
- Unlawful Use of a Payment Card – Three Counts
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was released on $61,000 unsecured bail.
