Earlier today (12/19), at 11:35AM, the Novato Police Department received a report of an armed robbery near Arthur Street and Hayes Street. Several boys approached the victim and demanded personal property. Witnesses said a firearm was brandished during the incident. After the robbery, the suspects fled onto the Novato High School campus.
 
Novato High staff placed the campus on lockdown. Officers, including NPD’s K-9 Officer, Drone Team, and School Resource Officer, thoroughly searched the campus. After an extensive search, it was determined that the suspects were no longer on school grounds. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 1:30PM. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the neighborhood or the school community.
 
We appreciate the cooperation of Novato Unified School District staff and students in ensuring everyone’s safety during the search of the campus.

During A Robbery

• Stay calm and don’t resist – Do as instructed. Don’t make sudden moves.
• Keep your hands in sight at all times.
• Get a look at the robber but don’t stare.  Do your best to look for something distinctive about the suspect(s). Take note of the type of weapon, get-away vehicle, etc.
• Personal safety first. Money and property is not important and CAN be replaced.
• Don’t chase or follow the robber. Let the police catch the robber. Call 911!
