Janesville Police Department Retirements
On Friday, December 20, 2024, Court Officer Dan Hanson retired from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after 25 incredible years of service, and Police Support Specialist Karen Burdick retired from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after 27 incredible years of service to the City of Janesville.
Officer Hanson joined the JPD as a Patrol Officer on June 1, 1999. Over the course of his career with the department, Officer Hanson had a variety of assignments, including first, second, and third shift Patrol Officer and Court Liaison Officer; in addition, he was a member of the Honor Guard, Crisis Intervention Team, and Motorcycle Unit. He was awarded the Problem Oriented Policing Award as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team in 2016 and also received a Chiefs Commendation in 2018.
Police Support Specialist Karen Burdick joined the JPD on February 24, 1997. Over the course of her career with the department, she had a variety of assignments, including Records Supervisor, Administrative Assistant, and Police Support Specialist. Karen was awarded the Civilian Employee of the Year Award in 1998, 2000, 2006, and 2013. In 2024, she was awarded a Chiefs Commendation.
